Press Conference for the Magna Carta of Waste Workers
-
Date/Location: June 12, 2024 (Independence Day) • UP Hotel, Diliman
The Waste Workers Magna Carta needed a public moment that could hold multiple goals at once:
-
raise public awareness with clear narrative framing,
-
strengthen policy traction through aligned stakeholder presence,
-
and secure credible media pickup—without flattening the lived realities of waste workers.
We intentionally timed the event on Independence Day to anchor messaging around dignity, rights, and public service.
I coordinated and hosted a policy-facing press conference advancing the Waste Workers Magna Carta, leading media relations, government/partner coordination, and end-to-end event delivery, from internal planning to post-event reporting and liquidation.
My Role
I served as the main coordinator, supported by colleagues on setup, technical needs, documentation, and on-the-day execution.
1. Media relations & press workflow
-
Coordinated outreach to ~100 media contacts from our database (invites, reminders, confirmations).
-
Prepared press and influencer kits (tailored packs; multiple versions depending on audience).
-
Managed media attendance flow and post-event follow-through.
-
Consolidated and tracked outcomes: 12 media pickups, including top-tier coverage.
2. Stakeholder coordination (policy + partners)
-
Coordinated with 5–7 partner organizations (CSOs and community partners) for aligned presence and messaging.
-
Coordinated with multiple government agencies participating as speakers during the event.
-
Supported coordination linked to higher-level policy engagement by connecting with a Senator’s office through leadership channels (in support of the broader advocacy track).
3. Program flow + facilitation
-
Served as event host, ensuring clarity, pacing, and message discipline.
-
Coordinated with waste workers and partners on a choreographed stance and unified spiels for media—clear, respectful, and camera-ready.
4. Full event delivery (operations + accountability)
-
Coordinated logistics: venue, accommodation needs, run-of-show, documenters (photo/video), and event requirements.
-
Managed post-event admin: expense liquidation, archiving, and consolidating documentation.
-
Supported drafting and dissemination of the post-event write-up/article with team and leadership inputs, then circulated to press.
